Forget circling parking lot for the light rail like a dieter at a dessert buffet — now you can get VIP parking. To encourage transit riders to travel together to their buses and trains, Sound Transit will begin offering carpool permit parking at some of its busiest park-and-rides.

Survey: How should driverless cars react in these situations?

Apply now for an November permit to park at Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Sumner, Puyallup, Angle Lake or the Tukwila International Boulevard Station. For about the price of a venti, half-whole milk, extra hot, split quad shots, no foam latte, with whip, and three short sprinkles of cinnamon you can have your own VIP parking spot.

In non-Seattle coffee speak — that’s $5 per month.

The new carpool permits allow regular transit commuters to access priority parking at Sound Transit’s most popular parking facilities. And parking hasn’t always been easy.

“Fifty percent of the spots will be reserved for people with permits, we are doing our very best to reserve the spaces for those who are using Link Light Rail,” said Sound Transit’s Kimberly Reason. “Our goal is to make sure people who are actually using the Light Rail have a place to park.”

Who can get a permit?

If you carpool to your transit stop and transfer to a bus / train at least three days each week, you may be eligible. Two or more carpool members can apply together by visiting the permit application website, selecting your preferred parking facility, entering names, contact information and ORCA card numbers.
