Traffic flowing once again after rock slide repaired along I-5

Jan 27, 2016, 10:26 PM | Updated: May 7, 2016, 10:27 pm

Good news for south end drivers. After several weeks of debris, trees and car-sized boulders getting in the way, northbound I-5 through Woodland, will soon be getting back to normal.

Winter storms threw trees across the freeway, along with rock slides and other damage. Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews have since been removing truckloads of concrete and keeping a single lane of northbound I-5 closed.

Soon, the hillside will be hydroseeded and traffic will be restored on the right lane of northbound I-5 and the Dike Access Road on-ramp Thursday.

Contractors have stabilized the hillside using a series of rock anchors, and are now making final preparations to reopen the remaining third lane of northbound I-5 and the nearby Dike Access Road on-ramp by Thursday, Jan. 28.

“We want to thank our contractor for completing this highly technical and very specialized repair work on schedule,” said Project Engineer Susan Fell. “We’re also appreciative to the community for their patience and understanding during the emergency response and throughout the duration of this project.”

The repairs cost approximately $700,000, and will be paid for with Federal Highway Administration emergency funds.
