Don't expect Washington State Ferries to adjust schedules based on traffic congestion.
Lindsey sent us a text at 98973 and asked: The 405 Express Tolls Lanes are making me miss my ferry, I-5 is slower and I don’t make it. Are they changing the ferry schedules?
This is a great example of how a “new toy,” aka I-405 express toll lanes, can cause issues for other routes. After watching the maps and listening to people, KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan found out drivers may be choosing alternate routes to avoid the tolls and slower traffic in the general purpose lanes, which is impacting other commuters.

The answer to Lindsey’s text is simple. No, the ferries are on the same schedule, but you might be late because of the congestion on I-405. However, the Washington State Department of Transportation is actively monitoring the new express toll lanes to see how they are affecting your commutes.
