A homeowner in Kent shot one man early Monday morning after a group of suspects attempted a home invasion.

A heavy police presence arrived at the location of the shooting, a house located near Evergreen Middle School in Kent, just after 3 a.m. The Kent Police Department additionally shut down Hampton Way while conducting its investigation.

According to Jarod Kasner, the assistant chief of the Kent Police Department, the homeowner told police officers that several armed suspects had entered the home.

“The resident heard a big bang and stated there were subject inside the home, and the husband was going downstairs and had a gun,” Kasner told KIRO Newsradio.

He then shot at the intruders, hitting one suspect several times.

“He retrieved his firearm from the safe that was next to his bed, then went downstairs. That’s when the shooting occurred, and the suspect was struck,” Kasner said.

The injured intruder received medical treatment from first responders before being transported to Harborview Medical Center.

“When our officers arrived, they did in fact find an individual who had been shot after breaking into the residence,” Kasner said.

The suspect’s condition is unknown, as of this reporting.

Kasner said the other suspects involved fled the area before police arrived. Officers conducted a K9 track, but didn’t find the suspects. Kent detectives were then called in to handle the investigation.
