A 30-year-old convicted felon, armed with a machete, was arrested during proactive patrols on Tuesday morning in the Chinatown-International District.

At approximately 2 a.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers were patrolling near 12th Avenue S. and S. King Street, SPD announced.

During the patrol, officers recognized a man from his outstanding arrest warrants.

SPD classified the suspect as a High Utilizer Initiative offender — an individual responsible for a high volume of misdemeanor crimes.

While the suspect was detained by officers, he gave a false name to officers in an attempt to conceal his identity.

Shortly after, the suspect was placed under arrest for his outstanding warrants:

  • $15,075 domestic violence warrant for Assault with Sexual Motivation, attempted Unlawful Imprisonment, Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence
  • $1,000 felony warrant for Theft in the 2nd Degree

During the suspect’s interaction with SPD, he “became irate and began challenging officers to a fight, calling officers slurs, and started to flail his legs,” according to the police report.

As a previously convicted felon for assault and intimidating a public servant, the suspect had a “high violent” risk level classification.

The suspect’s machete was seized during the arrest, and SPD recommended additional criminal charges for unlawful use of weapons.

Ultimately, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail.
