Child shot while sitting in car at Olympic National Forest, 1 suspect arrested

A child was shot while sitting in a car in the Olympic National Forest on Sunday and was later airlifted to the hospital.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a 911 call was made, with the reporting party stating that their child was hit by a bullet after their car was shot, and they were driving to Mason General Hospital, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) confirmed.

Deputies locate shooting scene near Spider Lake, detain suspect
MCSO deputies made contact with the victims at the hospital. Deputies determined that the shooting had occurred in the Olympic National Forest near the area of Forest Service Road 23 and Spider Lake.
The child was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for additional treatment.
Deputies located individuals in the area of the shooting and detained one suspect who was ultimately booked into the Mason County Jail for first-degree assault.
An MCSO investigation remains underway. The sheriff’s office noted there are no community safety concerns at this time.
