The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is investigating an early-morning stabbing in Georgetown that left a man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly before 2 a.m., 911 dispatchers received reports of a stabbing near Fourth Avenue South and South Front Street.

“Officers arrived and found a male suffering from a stab wound to the chest,” SPD Detective Brian Pritchard said. “Officers, of course, provided aid until Seattle Fire Department arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center.”

Investigators said the victim was walking toward a bus stop when an unknown man approached him. The two exchanged words before the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest with a pocket knife and then took off on foot.

Police have yet to determine if stabbing was random

Police have not determined whether the attack was random or if there was any prior connection between the suspect and the victim.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, with a thin build, last seen wearing an orange jacket and blue jeans. Despite a search that included assistance from a Tukwila Police Department K9 unit, officers were unable to find him.

The homicide and assault unit is leading the investigation and working to determine what led up to the stabbing.
