A man has been sentenced to two concurrent life sentences for assaulting a pregnant acquaintance and attacking someone who tried to intervene in 2024.

Jeffrey Hammons was charged with three counts of second-degree assault and one count of felony harassment. More than a year later, on September 10, 2025, a jury found him guilty on all four counts.

2024’s assault of a pregnant woman

On August 6, 2024, officers with the Marysville Police Department were called to respond to reports of a man who assaulted a woman inside a vehicle. The assault occurred near an area on 44th Drive N.E., off Levin Road.

While in the car, Hammons punched the victim, who was approximately 5.5 months pregnant, repeatedly, held her by the hair, and strangled her.

“[He] threatened her with a knife, saying he would kill her and her unborn child,” the Marysville Police Department stated.

A neighbor witnessed part of the assault occurring in the car and tried to intervene. The nearby resident was able to open the car door after the victim unlocked it. He pulled her out of the car to safety, but Hammons stabbed the neighbor in the arm during the struggle. Hammons then quickly fled the scene.

The Good Samaritan required six stitches for the stab wound.

Police pursuit of Hammons

In an attempt to evade police, Hammons drove onto the railroad tracks in Arlington, where his vehicle became stuck. He tried to flee on foot but was quickly arrested by an officer with the Arlington Police Department. Hammons was subsequently booked into Snohomish County Jail.

“Our agency commends the Good Samaritan for their extraordinary courage, which likely prevented a tragedy and saved two lives,” the Marysville Police Department stated. “Equally, we commend our Patrol and Investigations Divisions, along with the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office, for their persistence and professionalism in securing a just outcome.”
