The A&E channel says "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson is off the show indefinitely after condemning gays as sinners in a magazine interview. In a statement Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, A&E said it was extremely disappointed to read Robertson's comments in GQ magazine. (AP Photo/A&E, Zach Dilgard)

Duck Dynasty is the hit reality show that follows the quirky but lovable Robertson family of West Monroe, Louisiana, who’ve made a fortune selling hand-made duck calls.

The business made them rich even before they became TV stars. They’re unabashed Christians, and they’re popular because they’re real men.

It’s irresistible. But now, 67 year old Phil Robertson has been suspended from the show for an interview with GQ where he called homosexuality sinful.

And now, a website called Celebuzz has posted a video
where he condemns homosexuality during a speech at a Pennsylvania church three years ago.

“Robertson Caught On Video in Homophobic Rant” the headline reads. But the rant is quoted almost word for word from the New Testament – It’s Paul’s letter to the Romans, Chapter 1, verses 29 and 30.

Like it or not, this is what a lot of Christians believe, and the A&E Network knew that when they put him on. In fact, the Robertsons said A&E cut a lot of the Jesus references out of the show – and told them to tone down the Christianity.

But this is not a free speech issue. Your speech is only protected from Government interference. Your boss can still fire you for what you say.

And – if quoting the Bible on your own time is now going to become a firing offense, this country’s in for a rough ride.
