Mitt Romney has clinched the Republican nomination but that was expected. The real fun part of the campaign has turned out to be Donald Trump, who set the bar last spring when he took down Columnist George Will for predicting Romney couldn’t win the White House.
“I think he’s a totally overrated fool. I don’t think he’s very smart. He looks smart with the little glasses and the hair slicked to the side,” said Trump.
Then over the weekend, when it became clear Trump would be a big part of the Romney campaign, George Will — glasses and hair fixed for battle, fired back.
“The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious it seems to me,” said Will.
And then, for anyone who tuned in late.
“Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics,” said Will.
Ouch. But it all bounces off Trump — he’d moved on — telling CNBC and CNN that by popular demand he is back to investigating the President’s true birthplace.
“A lot of people do not think it was an authentic certificate,” said Trump.
Prompting the Obama campaign to fire back.
“The Obama campaign labels Donald Trump a charlatan.”
All of this, of course, has nothing to do with JOBS, but that’s a well-worn debate. And with three months to fill between now and the conventions.
I just hope they can keep it up.
