CSI: Dirty Politics

OK fellow detectives. There is a new a web ad which slams Obamacare using a clip from the Supreme Court arguments – a clip where the President’s own lawyer stumbles during his opening.

Watch it, and listen to the sound of the ice tinkling in the lawyer’s water glass as he’s trying to clear his throat.

The point of the ad is that even the President own lawyer can’t defend Obamacare.

But to make that point they spliced in the exact same pause TWICE. I compared the actual sound waves.

Now, Obamacare may be a bad idea, but what they did with this clip – repeating a piece, and moving around another piece – well, it would be as if I took JFK’s famous inaugural address and did this:

“Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask not.”

But that’s what free speech has come to mean. You are free to deceptively edit someone else’s speech.
