Dave Ross learns an important lesson from former Speaker

So many insults, so little time.

John Boehner, the former Speaker of the House who left last October, loved his job. That is until Senator Ted Cruz came along and convinced Republicans in the House that shutting down the government would get rid of Obamacare.

It didn’t end Obamacare, of course, but it did make Cruz famous. And it made Boehner really, really mad.

“We’ve got groups here in town, members of the House and Senate here in town, who whipped people into a frenzy believing they can accomplish things that they know – they know – are never going to happen,” he said.

Now that he’s out of office, it’s payback time. This week he was taking questions from Stanford students.

Asked for his views on Ted Cruz, Boehner called Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” and the “most miserable son of a b*tch” he’s ever worked with, CBS’ Steven Portnoy explained.

I admit I did not realize until this story that it was OK to say “son of a b*tch” on air, but apparently it is – at least when you’re referring to Ted Cruz.

However, it turns out that the phrase “Lucifer in the flesh” is another matter.

Lucifer, of course, refers to the Devil, the Prince of Darkness. And, of course, a reporter requested a comment on this from a spokesman for the Satanic Temple, the atheist group which last year in Detroit unveiled a 9-foot statue depicting a horned idol sitting on a throne. The spokesman said that to equate Lucifer to Ted Cruz was offensive to Satanists.

He wanted to make it clear that Ted Cruz is thoroughly Christian and has nothing whatever to do with Satan.

So take heart, Senator Cruz, John Boehner may have condemned you, but Hell doesn’t want you.
