Finally the White House is happy to talk about Benghazi

One of the privileges of being president is that, unlike any other politician in the federal government, you can give a military order.

Like ordering the raid that captured Ahmed Abu Khattala – charged with being a ‘key leader’ in the September 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

Of course the level of celebration depended on the party. Democrats were high-fiving the special forces – while Republicans were somewhat muted.

“I congratulate those that were involved in capturing this guy. I think that’s a significant step,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell.

“They knew where they were, they gave interviews in cafes in Benghazi,” said Sen. John McCain.

One reason for the muted response might be that this capture tends to undermine this soundbite: Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, losing patience as Republican senators accused her of misleading them about the reason for the Benghazi attack.

“The fact is, we have four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest? Or was it because of guys out for a walk one night that decided they would go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?” asked Hillary.

I’m betting the attack ads were already produced and in the can.

But now, with the capture of the alleged mastermind – it’s probably the Democrats who will be going back to the archives – to use the clip of what she said right after that.

“It is less important today, looking backwards, as to why these militants decided they did it, than to find them and bring them to justice,” she said.

With the alleged mastermind in custody, we won’t have to speculate, we won’t have to hold any more hearings, we can find out from the guy who DID IT…
