Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Message to convention planners: Three days are enough. Both major parties packed their presidential nominating conventions into 72 hours, one day short of the traditional four-day celebration _ prompting few complaints from either delegates or the viewing public. It’s easy to get cynical about politics but with the right music, if you string together the ends of those speeches, it’s also easy to feel inspired and optimistic:
“He will take us to a better place, just as he took me home safely from that dance. Give him that chance. Give America that chance. God bless each and every one of you, and God bless the United States of America.” – Ann Romney
“And stand together for the man we can trust to keep moving this great country forward.” – Michelle Obama
“Join Mitt Romney and me; let’s give this effort everything we have. Let’s see this thing all the way through. Let’s get this done.” – Paul Ryan
“There is only one choice. That choice is to move forward – boldly forward, and finish the job, and re-elect President Barack Obama.” – Joe Biden
“That future is out there, it is waiting for us, our children deserve it, our nation depends on it, the peace and freedom of the world require it, and with your help we will deliver it. Let us begin that future for America tonight. Thank you so very much.” – Mitt Romney
“We draw strength from our victories, and we learn from our mistakes, but we keep our eyes fixed on that distant horizon knowing that providence is with us and that we are surely blessed to be citizens of the greatest nation on earth. Thank you.” – Barack Obama
