I Know — Let’s Try Tax Cuts!
Jun 9, 2011, 4:17 PM
Latest Republican candidate Tim Pawlenty opened his campaign with a promise of further tax cuts to spur job growth. even Barack Obama is talking about another tax cut.
But seriously — how long do we give this experiment to work?
I’ve enjoyed the extra money, but I have to admit, I haven’t created any new jobs with it. So I’ll take my share of the blame — but I have plenty of company. It’s officially ten years since the Bush tax cuts, and I agree with Slate — the jury’s in, and they didn’t work.
…the number of private-sector jobs created by young companies fell during the Bush administration.
… the tax cuts never translated into robust economic growth, either… from 2001 to 2007, annual GDP growth averaged just 2.4 percent per year, lower than in any other postwar business cycle…
Personally, I’d be happy to wait for that free market mega-job miracle I keep hearing about, because I already have a job. But how long are you willing to wait if you DON’T?
