Dave Ross Commentary – Listen: Interesting…but also scary
I wasn’t going to watch the Republican debate — what’s the point when Sarah Palin and Rick Perry aren’t there I thought. But it turned out to be fascinating! You know why? Fox’s format.
The crowd was allowed to react. So when Michelle Bachman got the big
question:
“As president, would you be submissive to your husband.”
They let the panel know exactly what they thought about the gotcha media.
Bachmann explained that Submission simply means “respect.”
But what was also fascinating was that all the candidates knew EXACTLY what to do. No stumbling. Their mental teleprompters were perfect. And that was a little scary.
Herman Cain would drill everywhere for oil.
Michelle Bachman would immediately default on the debt.
Mitt Romney would strictly limit spending to a percentage of GDP.
And Rick Santorum on foreign policy:
“When Rick Santorum is president, Iran will not get a nuclear weapon, because the world as we know it will be no more.”
The world as we know it will be no more? See, according to what I was taught … the President, by himself, can’t do any of these things. Especially ending the world as we know it. At least I hope not.
Congress has to agree first, and the reason we’re in the present pickle is Congress couldn’t agree.
These guys talk leadership, but to keep their grand promises they’d need a dictatorship or some kind of White House strongman.
And if we keep electing Congresses that can’t compromise, just as old Benjamin Franklin warned — we may end up with exactly that.
