Dave Ross Commentary – Listen: iPhone – Your nosy little pocket pal

What’s this? Your iPhone and your iPad storing your location?

Yes… says CNET’s Brian Cooley, but don’t worry:

“I’d be concerned, not worried. Remember this stuff is on your iPhone, your iPad, and synced to your computer. It’s not out in the wild on the internet.”

That’s because the Apple operating system keeps all your data locked away. So even though the gizmo is recording your location, only YOU can access it.

— Unless you download an app that lets you VOLUNTARILY send out your data, if, for example, you want to let friends locate you or let nearby bars to send you a Happy Hour coupon.

The iPhone will only do that WITH YOUR PERMISSION. But the UNTOLD story however, is that OTHER phones, like the Android can transmit that data without your permission.

A website called androidtracking.org has an article headlined — How to Use an Android Tracking App to Catch a Cheating Spouse.

If you can get a hold of the other person’s Android phone for a few minutes, and install this app, you can then go to any computer and download a Google map pinpointing every place that person goes!

And you can see every text message, every email, and every photo on the phone. And unless the person you’re tracking knows how to monitor data use or battery drain, they’ll have no idea.

Apple doesn’t permit ANY of these stealth apps on the iPhone — except — there’s a company called Mobile Spy which is now providing instructions on how to do what’s called a JAILBREAK on the iPhone that disables Apple’s protections… Every single day / Every word you say / Every place you stay.

Or maybe just handing you a coupon for happy hour.
