Knife found on O.J.’s property: New evidence or Hollywood stunt?

It’s understandable that someone may be skeptical over reports that a buck knife was found on O.J. Simpson’s former property, reigniting the public’s interest in the decades-old murder case.
Though he understands the original events that led to the case against Simpson in 1994 were tragic, 710 ESPN’s Danny O’Neil says he can’t help but think about the miniseries on FX, “The People v. O.J. Simpson.”

“I don’t want to laugh,” O’Neil said. “Two people died in this case and it’s very tragic. At the same time, there is a mini-series going on right now … starring Cuba Gooding Jr.”
On Friday, reports that Los Angeles police were investigating a knife found at the former Simpson home quickly grabbed the media’s attention. Police Capt. Andy Neiman confirmed the investigation Friday but released few details, stressing that the authenticity of the story is not known. The weapon used in the killings has been a mystery for decades.
The account of the knife’s discovery was first reported by TMZ, which said the knife was found by a construction worker during the demolition of the home and given to a police officer who kept it.
In 1997, a jury found Simpson civilly liable for the slaying of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. He’s now imprisoned in Nevada on a robbery-kidnap conviction.
“I guess this is going to be our cultural fixation,” O’Neil said. “Bringing the ‘Juice’ to justice.”
KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross wonders if the knife matters at this point.
“He’s in jail!” Dave said. “Even if he was out of jail the word is out on him: Don’t date him.”
Colleen O’Brien argues that Nicole’s family would probably still like closure.
“Maybe this is a surreptitious plan by FX to get the grounds for a new miniseries,” O’Neil said. “Because we know in the media, you need franchises, things you can do multiple seasons on. This is going to be season two of “People v. OJ Simpson.”
