Listen to Dave Ross Commentary: Mitt Romney wins New Hampshire, now what?
It’s on to South Carolina, where for the next ten days supporters of Newt Gingrich will spend millions to get South Carolinians to watch “When Mitt Romney Came to Town.”
Watch a clip:
The film argues that capitalists like Steve Jobs and Henry Ford are the job creators… while Mitt Romney is just a vulture. It includes footage of his beachfront homes. It shows him speaking FRENCH. And it shows him firing people.
This didn’t work with New Hampshire voters:
“I’ve done my research I know what Mitt Romney’s done in the past, and what Mitt Romney hasn’t done,” said one Romney voter.
In fact the attacks convinced this undecided voter to vote FOR Romney:
“All the candidates where saying OK no capitalism throwing Romney under the bus, and I didn’t like that so I voted for Mitt Romney.”
The Romney voters I talked weren’t dazzled with their candidate… no, they’re focused on something else:
“I was between him and Newt,” said one voter.
When asked what tipped the balance.
“Romney is the only one that can beat Barack Obama.”
So Romney’s attackers will try to convince Republicans he’s nothing but a vulture who fires people. But when the whole purpose of a campaign is, in fact to get someone fired:
“The only thing I want is to get Obama out of office. Mitt Romney is the only one who’s going to get it done.”
… a vulture may be exactly what you want.
