Seattle Mariners’ comeback was ‘make-believe stuff’

The biggest comeback in Seattle Mariners history is what 710 ESPN’s Danny O’Neil calls “absolutely unbelievable.”
The M’s rallied back from a 12-2 deficit Thursday night by scoring 14 straight runs to defeat the San Diego Padres 16-13.
For KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross, it was a game that was tough to comprehend.
“Danny, they’re for real, aren’t they,” Dave said.
“It’s not even for real,” Danny responded. “That was make-believe stuff that happened last night.”

If Thursday night’s game did anything, it spoke to the Mariners’ resolve.
“I don’t think teams quit in baseball,” O’Neil said. “It doesn’t get to the point where they are down 10 runs and are like ‘eh, nobody cares.”
The M’s have had several comeback victories that speak to the strength of the lineup, O’Neil points out.
“It was sort of a pinch-me feeling last night, watching that comeback,” O’Neil said.
Dave says it looks like the team was have a great time while they were busy crushing the Padres. If he were to pinpoint a difference between the Mariners of today and the Mariners of the recent past, it’s that the team now has a clubhouse feel. That, he says, is backed up by reports that the environment in the clubhouse is “100 percent” better.
“And it’s about damn time!” Dave exclaimed.
