Listen to Dave Ross Commentary: Thank you mainstream media for the snow coverage
As you may have heard, we’re getting a massive snowstorm here in the Pacific Northwest today. And watching the coverage reminded me that when the weather goes crazy, the place everyone still goes for news is.. The Mainstream Media.
“Here we are LIVE in the newscar driving around,” touts a parka clad local reporter.
Because the Internet still cannot cover real-time weather. It can get you a radar track, but that’s just blotches of blue and green. What you want to know is if I get in my car, what are the chances some moron will go careening into me.
“I watched a car go….whooo right here into the ditch,” observes another astute TV news weather watcher.
That’s what you want as you’re trying to decide what to do – live eyes and ears. No radar track can tell me that. And no Twitter feed can measure the snow with a Starbucks cup.
“Look at this, only up to the Mermaid,” observes yet another broadcast weather analyst.
The snow is Mermaid-deep and rising. And do you know WHY the snow level is rising:
“It’s those teeny tiny snowflakes, but there’s just so much they keep piling up,” explains one more live weather reporter.
The only possible drawback of mainstream media snow coverage is the moral hazard -Some people seeing this as their big chance to get on TV.
But in the end … thanks to the mainstream media… I was able to convince the boss to let me work from home today. I believe my English muffin is ready. Thank you mainstream media.
