The real meaning of all that scattered flour

Nov 23, 2011, 1:54 PM | Updated: Nov 26, 2011, 5:00 pm

You’ve seen the viral flour video right? Two cute little boys get into the kitchen cupboard, discover a bag of flour, tear it open, and scatter it all over the living room — the floor, the couches, the walls, the family photographs.

We would know NOTHING about this if Mom hadn’t made a video:

“I grabbed my camera, it had flour on it because it was in the living room, and started recording.”

And because the kids continued to scatter flour even as she took the video, and showed not the slightest hint of shame… and because Mom didn’t even SWEAR ONCE… people started alleging she put the kids up to it.

The Mom went on the Today Show and said… nonsense:

“I was sending this to my family. I wasn’t going to swear as I’m recording, that’s ridiculous.”

But the very fact she would go on the Today Show only confirmed people’s suspicions.

A whole group of flour TRUTHERS emerged — examining the flour patterns on the couch and saying no way could a couple of toddlers do that; the parents and the kids were clearly part of a flour-spreading conspiracy.

Well I don’t know if there’s a conspiracy as the flour truthers allege, but there is a dangerous subliminal message. What makes this video so dangerous — and it is dangerous — is that, JUST when the make-or-break Christmas shopping season is getting underway, this video shows that kids don’t need expensive toys! Just give ’em a bag of flour and empty room and they’re as happy as Santa could possibly make them.

Boy, don’t let THAT message go viral.

Now this.
