Listen to Dave Ross Commentary: Well THAT didn’t take long!

Remember Rick Perry’s goal for Iowa?

“I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses.”

Granted. He’s headed back to Texas; Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich will I’m sure have great success with their newsletters…so what about the near-winner in Iowa, Rick Santorum?

santRick Santorum rode his Dodge pickup to every county in Iowa; sometime only a few people would show up, but his children would hand out peach preserves…and he developed a sincere empathy for people who have suffered in this economy.

“We found those jobs leaving Iowa. Why? Because our workers didn’t want to work. No. It’s because government made workers uncompetetive.”

It resonated so well that he came within eight votes of Mitt Romney. By eight votes. But Santorum has no serious money. And the donors in a position to give him the serious money know that a Santorum campaign would end up being about family values and God and his promise to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. At a time when all the voters really care about is jobs.

Mitt Romney looks like the last man standing. The polling shows that 2012 looks like 2008 without John McCain.

Of course anything can happen — never count the votes before the votes are counted; and Jon Huntsman — remember him — didn’t play in Iowa to focus on Hew Hampshire; maybe there’ll be a Huntsman miracle.

But the way I see it, there is only one unknown:

“Because if the Republicans pick the wrong person, I would in fact consider running,” said Donald Trump.

Every reporter in America wants to know what it would take Mr. Trump.

Ross: Voters weren’t just voting for change, they were voting for a hormone
