Gee and Ursula rewrite Trump’s balcony speech

Oct 6, 2020, 1:43 PM | Updated: 4:32 pm

President Trump was airlifted back to the White House on Monday, where he took off his mask, flashed a thumbs up on the balcony, and then delivered a short message to the American people about his battle with coronavirus.

Since then, the president has taken flack for being insensitive to the families of the over 210,000 who’ve died from the virus, and the other 7.2 million people who’ve either had COVID or are currently dealing with it.

Trump started off, “I just left Walter Reed Medical Center and it’s really something very special. The doctors, the nurses, the first responders, and I learned so much about coronavirus. And one thing’s that for certain, don’t let it dominate you. Don’t be afraid of it.”

Ursula and Gee rewrote his speech, starting with “And one thing’s for certain:”

Ursula: It is a terrible virus. I’ve seen first-hand that coronavirus is highly contagious. I realize it was a mistake for us to hold events where a lot of people were not wearing masks and not social distancing. That won’t happen again. It’s not worth it! Any future campaign or White House events will only take place if we can ensure everyone’s safety.

Although the vast majority of people who get COVID-19 will survive, this virus is deadly. I’m fortunate that, as president, I have access to the very best medical care available. Because I’m 74 and fall into the high risk category, the medical team at Walter Reed attacked the virus aggressively with anti-viral drugs, experimental therapies, and steroids to keep the symptoms from getting much worse.

As many patients do, I was having some breathing issues on Friday so I was given oxygen. But I’m feeling a lot better today. Still not 100% but I’m ready to get back to work! The good news is I will continue to have access to excellent medical care in the White House. And just to make sure I don’t get anyone else sick, or have a relapse, I will continue quarantining in the Lincoln bedroom until I am no longer contagious. I’ve asked Vice President Mike Pence and our leadership team to help out until I am back to full speed.

This COVID experience has been eye-opening and I am committed to work together, as a united country, to get this virus under control, once and for all. While there are some promising vaccines on the horizon, we don’t know when there will be one available for all of you. Until that happens, let’s all do what we know can help fight the virus and get our country re-opened: put on your mask, stay at least six feet apart, and wash your hands!

Gee on Trump’s COVID diagnosis: Human decency comes before politics

Gee: Over the last seven months, we have been tested by an enemy like none we have never seen before. For over 100 years, we have always prepared to protect our country against anyone, foreign or domestic. The coronavirus has attacked us in ways that I could have never imagined. I underestimated this enemy and, unfortunately, it has brought our country to its knees.

However, we are resilient and we are going to bounce back. As you know, I’m personally fighting this deadly virus. As I fight this, I continue to think about the 210,000 Americans that did not make it, along with their families.

So, America, not Left, not Right, but all of you, America, let’s fight this. Let’s fight this together. God bless you and God bless the United States of America.
