‘We’re going all in on the Hawks’: Issaquah renames itself ’12saquah’ ahead of Super Bowl

In honor of the Seattle Seahawks blitzing through the playoffs and into the Super Bowl, the City of Issaquah’s mayor, Mark Mullet, has chosen to rename the city to “12saquah” ahead of the big game.
Mullet joined “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio to explain the reasoning behind the temporary rebrand.
“Think of the number 12 followed by Issaquah. This is our name until we beat the Patriots on Feb. 8. We’re excited,” Mullet said.
After co-host Gee Scott labeled the decision as the “most dad joke type thing in the world,” he asked Mullet to explain the process behind the change, whether it was a personal move or a committee’s choice.
“Once I became mayor, I was convinced we’re going to the Super Bowl, so the planning started right away,” Mullet said. “We’re going to actually have a celebration right there on the steps of City Hall to kind of honor this proclamation and give a chance for our community to come out and express their love of the Seahawks and these like partisan times.
“It’s really refreshing to have something where, regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, everyone can get behind supporting the Hawks in this attempt to get revenge for that unfortunate outcome the last time we played the Patriots in the Super Bowl,” Mullet continued.
Gee noted the Issaquah Police Chief’s decision to allow officers to wear Seahawks shirts and hats while on duty, which was something that Mullet wholeheartedly agreed with.
“I’ve met with our police officers. I was okay with it. I mean, we’re going all in on the Hawks,” Mullet said. “I was born and raised in Tukwila, so I’ve lived here a long time. I know these Super Bowl events are a little bit like Halley’s Comet. They don’t come across often, celebrate it while they’re here.”
