A man trying to keep armed thugs from stealing his sports car on Queen Anne hill early Sunday morning opened fire at the suspects, apparently injuring two of them.

Police say around 3:30 a.m. a group of four masked suspects in a white sedan approached a man who had just parked his vehicle on 1st Ave. N., near the Queen Anne Safeway.

Investigators say two of the suspects were armed.

The victim, whom police say was legally-armed, fired shots to defend himself.

When officers arrived, they found one suspect had been shot several times.

The other three suspects took off.

Police later learned one of them, also suffering from a gunshot wound, had been dropped off at Harborview Medical Center.

Officers investigating the attempted carjacking detained the victim, a licensed gun owner, and questioned him.

They also recovered his gun.

Medics with the Seattle Fire Department arrived at the scene minutes later and treated the injured suspect’s gunshot wounds.

An ambulance transported him to Harborview Medical Center, where he is reported to be in serious condition.

Police officers have him under armed guard at the hospital.

Investigators say the attempted carjacking took place after the four suspects had a brief conversation with the victim.

They say the sports car owner feared for his safety and fired several rounds at the suspects before three of them took off in the white sedan.

They had left the scene before police arrived.

The second injured suspect who was dropped off at the hospital is also reported to be in serious condition.

The two apparently-uninjured suspects took off from the hospital before police arrived at Harborview.

The second suspect is also under armed guard as doctors treat him for his injuries.

Meantime, at the shooting scene, police detectives processed and collected evidence.

They also interviewed witnesses in the area.

Detectives questioned the carjacking victim at Seattle Police Headquarters.

He was expected to be released.

The investigation remains open by the Seattle Police Department’s Robbery Unit.

Police are searching for the two remaining, uninjured suspects.

This was the second carjacking incident to take place in Seattle within a few hours.

Around 9:30 Saturday night, another car was taken at gunpoint in Seattle’s Sand Point neighborhood.

Police believe four teens stole a man’s B-M-W at gunpoint near Magnuson Park.

The teens reportedly took the man’s key, phone and car.

Police contacted B-M-W and the company was able to track the car’s location.

Investigators found it at a grocery store near Northgate and arrested a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.

Two other suspects ran from the scene and have not been found.

The victim of that carjacking was not hurt.
