The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office released a video allegedly showing 27-year-old Damien Madison firing an AR-15 at deputies during a pursuit.

During “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, co-host Spike O’Neill criticized the deputies’ initial use of profanity during the attempted traffic stop, suggesting it could escalate the situation.

“When these guys are screaming at this car and just laced with profanities, I think that escalates the situation,” Spike said. “I think that runs the risk of causing this guy to panic even further.”

Debate over deputies’ profanity during pursuit

However, co-host Jake Skorheim defended the deputies’ actions, arguing the language was necessary.

“These guys are literally putting their lives on the line on a daily basis to keep our community safe,” Jake said. “I give zero bleeps that they were cursing at this guy.”

Madison is seen throwing objects, including a chainsaw and a toolbox, at the deputy’s vehicle while firing 15 rounds at them, authorities said.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Sheriff Derek Sanders warned that Madison is considered armed and dangerous, with a history of violent behavior.
