Rantz: Sheriff says throw Gov. Inslee in jail after sanctuary state law

In one epic instance of transparent politicking, Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a bill that officially turns Washington into a sanctuary state. It was pushed by Democrats in the state Legislature just days after an illegal immigrant shot and killed a Washington deputy.

The move was meant to bolster Inslee’s progressive bona fides as he runs for president. But instead of inspiring voters to boost his polls beyond .3 percent support, it has one sheriff saying it should land him in jail for obstruction.

The law bars law enforcement from asking someone about their immigration status, unless it’s part of a criminal investigation. It also prohibits law enforcement from putting someone in jail for 48 hours on an immigration hold. Overall, the law is dangerous and illegal, according to Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich.

“The governor took the same oath of office as I did to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the laws thereof,” Sheriff Knezovich told The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH.

What’s especially objectionable to the sheriff is that this law implies law enforcement officers go around asking people to prove their immigration status.

“In 29 years I’ve been in law enforcement, I’ve never walked up once and asked about immigration status unless I absolutely had a reason to,” he explained.

Knezovich says he won’t be complying with the sanctuary state law, and will still extend a helping hand to federal agents when asked.

“If they [federal authorities] have something going on they need to have full confidence that they can come to me…” he said. “So this law, you know, causes that silo mentality and quite frankly the same silo mentality led to 9/11. It’s not a good situation. And quite frankly, again, this is just, you know, extreme partisan progressive politics. The Governor’s running for president.”

For the sheriff, Inslee is completely ignoring the crisis at the border and how illegal immigration impacts Washington.

“We [had] a deputy sheriff in the state killed by an illegal immigrant,” Knezovich said. “We have massive amounts of methamphetamine pouring over the Mexican border from Mexican super labs. They are using illegal immigrants to carry some of those drugs across the border. And all these illegal immigrants are also being victimized on the sex trafficking trade, the drug trafficking trade.”

On FOX News, the sheriff said Inslee should either step down or even arrested over his position. I asked him if he’s yet heard from the governor.

“I haven’t and I look forward to it, because I’d like to see their logic on how they want me to violate the oath of office. There are federal codes here that are at play that they might want to get their attorneys to beef up on.”
