Critics of Michelle Obama in Carpool Karaoke need to ‘relax’

KIRO Radio’s Tom Tangney says it’s pretty obvious that the Obama’s are “feeling it” right now.

“They see the end is in sight and are really starting to enjoy themselves and realize this burden is just about out from under them,” Tom said.

While the political fireworks continue at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Michelle Obama joined “The Late Late Show” with James Corden for some Carpool Karaoke. The two sang Michelle’s favorite song, Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and follow it up with a little Beyonce and a special guest passenger.

The video was posted Wednesday and had more than two million views by Thursday morning.

“There are a lot of people who hate the Obama’s and that clip probably makes them as uncomfortable and sick as a Tiffany Trump singing a pop tune from five years ago, but I just thought she was in such a good mood and it’s amazing how light and airy a first lady can actually be,” Tom said.

But not everybody feels that way, as Michelle has been criticized for the video being unbecoming of a first lady. Fill-in co-host Luke Burbank said this kind of thing is nothing new, noting that Richard Nixon went on “Laugh-in” in 1968, using the tagline “sock it to me.” Donald Trump also made an appearance last year on Saturday Night Live.

“As a supporter of the Obama’s, I’m probably predisposed to finding it more charming with Michelle Obama, but with that said, I don’t think I’d have a problem with any first lady or president taking part in something like this, I like the fact that it makes them seem relatable,” Burbank said. “… Everybody just needs to relax about this idea that the presidency is some revered office that never overlaps with pop culture. Historically it’s not true.”
