Three suspects broke into Enumclaw High School on May 31, wearing masks and brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, and then told investigators they were planning a prank.

“Authorities have apprehended the teens responsible, and police say the kids were preparing for a senior prank,” KIRO fill-in host Angela Poe Russell said. “It turns out the gun in the video was an airsoft pistol.”

School shooting awareness

Poe Russell compared the Enumclaw prank to past school shooting instances.

“It is fair considering the rise in school shootings, we’ve had more than one case where there was some kind of warning, the kid denied it, and next thing you know, here we are,” Poe Russell said.

KIRO fill-in host Mike Lewis proposed a punishment that avoids the suspects facing criminal trials.

“I have a solution for this: Have the kids repeat senior year,” Lewis said. “This is what I’d say to those kids. ‘Sorry, not graduating this year. You get a chance to do this whole year all over again.’ For the benefit of everyone to see that you’ve learned your lesson and are not going to do something as mind-bendingly stupid as this again.”
