‘I’m not mad that the Mariners copped my idea’: Spike says he called the Jimothy drink idea weeks ago
Aug 23, 2026, 5:00 AM
The Seattle Mariners are now selling a Jimothy-inspired cocktail called the Trash Panda at T-Mobile Park, served in a miniature blue trash can. KIRO host Spike O’Neill pointed out he pitched the concept of serving booze in trash cans weeks before the Mariners made it a reality.
“I said it from the get-go,” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “When they announced Jimothy Night, and they have a lovely commemorative T-shirt that you got when you bought a special ticket …”
“And you said, ‘Wrong. You guys should be offering booze in trash cans,'” KIRO host Jake Skorheim filled in.
The drink, a mix of Hennessy, pineapple, and ginger beer, is reportedly available at the ballpark’s speakeasy bar. It comes topped with what appears to be a cupcake and features a raccoon tail hanging out of the cup.

Spike is ‘honored’ Mariners used his Jimothy drink concept
Jake confirmed Spike was weeks ahead of the Mariners on the concept.
“You were three weeks ahead of them on this,” Jake said. “You said it on the radio, and then for them to just put it out there.”
Spike said he’s not upset, just vindicated.
“I’m not mad that the Mariners copped my idea. I’m not mad at all,” Spike said. “I’m honored.”
Jake suggested Spike deserves at least a free one for the inspiration. Spike, who no longer drinks, had a different ask.
“I don’t drink, but I could take a couple tickets to the ball game,” Spike said. “I could take a hot dog from Heaven.”
Jake pushed further, arguing the Mariners should send over commemorative cups Spike could sell on the secondary market.
“I hope they give you credit,” Jake added.
Spike acknowledged it’s possible someone else had the same idea independently, but Jake wasn’t buying it.
“The timing of it is suspicious to me,” Jake said.
‘Good for him’: Jake says Jimothy still has ‘a little bit of relevance’
Jimothy, the oddly shaped Ballard raccoon who went viral earlier this summer, received an official Seattle city proclamation in July and has been honored with two sold-out Jimothy Nights at T-Mobile Park. A raccoon even crashed the first Jimothy Night, scuttling through the rafters during the game.
Despite the fanfare, Jake noted Jimothy’s star may be fading.
“His star is waning,” Jake said. “Last night I was watching TV with the fam, and I saw him on the Roku screen. I went, ‘Oh, hey, Jimothy is still there.’ He’s sitting at a little table with a cat, and they’re doing a Lady and the Tramp spaghetti situation. Good for him. He still has a little bit of relevance.”
