‘Bad move on his part’: Curley weighs in on Trump’s ‘eulogy’ for Rob Reiner

Dec 16, 2025, 9:11 AM | Updated: 1:15 pm

Following the murders of the famed Hollywood actor and director, Rob Reiner, and his wife, Michele, President Donald Trump posted a “eulogy” on Truth Social that was highly criticized for his lack of sympathy after the brutal killings.

John Curley, host of “The John Curley Show” on KIRO Newsradio, provided some background on why Trump may have reacted the way he did, stating that his treatment since announcing his run for office has been similar to the treatment he gave Reiner and his wife.

“I am not in any way defending him, I’m going to try to explain as best I can why you get somebody with reactions that you get,” Curley said. “So, from 2015, when he says I’m going to run for president, and them people mock him, and when Obama was at the White House Correspondents Dinner, every joke while Trump is sitting there just bashing him. Imagine being a guy deciding you want to run for president, and everyone mocks you. Comedians are taking shots at you constantly.

“Again, I am not excusing the behavior. I wish he could rise above and be a stronger, better man for it, but I don’t think you’re going to get somebody like that,” Curley continued. “Imagine if you were a public person, and everything you read online from so many people coming after you, right or wrong, whatever it is. And then, I don’t think most of us would be able to show grace. I don’t think you would be able to do that. Most people can’t. Bad move on his part; to rise above it would not have been in his DNA. So you can expect more of this.”
