Seattle’s Police Officers Guild (SPOG) President Mike Solan is criticizing an article published by Danny Weastneat in The Seattle Times, claiming that crime rates have decreased in Seattle.

The column highlights a sharp decline in major crimes—homicide, shootings, car theft, and robbery—based on 911 call data. However, critics, including SPOG, argue the statistics are misleading, claiming the drop is due to fewer 911 calls and inaccurate data from the Seattle Police Department.

“The negative pieces are giving you the truth, talking about the crime that’s impacting this entire city, the public safety crisis that Seattle finds itself in,” said Solan on his podcast. “I can tell you, there’s a reason why the crime stats put up by the department are not as accurate as what we put out there.”

Gee and Ursula push back against SPOG president

Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, pushed back against the statements made by Sloan.

“So you’re trying to say that homicides are up. I mean, the statistics show that homicides are down, assaults are down, and robberies are down, and that’s a good thing,” Ursula said. “And why wouldn’t the Seattle Police Department want to celebrate that?”

Co-host of “Gee and Ursula,” Gee Scott expanded on Ursula’s comment by sharing that he felt the comments made by Sloan were indicative of a much larger maturity issue.

“Hearing him call Danny out of his name shows that people like Mike represent a bigger problem—something we’re also seeing with the president of the United States,” Gee said. “There’s a clear connection in the way they mistreat others, especially by disrespectfully calling people names. It’s immature behavior, like something you’d see in junior high or high school.”
