Gee and Ursula: Until stricter gun laws are implemented, ‘don’t expect anything to change’

Students at Seattle’s Garfield High School are once again mourning the shooting death of a classmate. During a recent segment on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, co-host Ursula Reutin emphasized the need for stricter gun laws.
“Until we get serious about addressing gun violence, don’t expect anything to change anytime soon,” Ursula said.
On Monday, a vigil was held to celebrate and mourn the life of 18-year-old Garfield High School senior Salvador “Junior” Granillo.
Granillo was allegedly shot and killed while attending a party in Yakima in the 1500 block of South Keys Road. Detectives with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office were informed about a gunshot victim at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday. Granillo died at the hospital.

“My takeaways: don’t go to house parties if you’re a teen, because there’s a good chance there are other teens who are armed,” Ursula said. “And if you are at one of those parties, don’t get into an argument, because there’s a good chance someone’s going to pull a gun as a way to resolve that argument.”
Gee Scott, co-host of “Gee and Ursula,” pointed out that, under the current laws in King County, juveniles would need to be convicted of using a gun more than five times before they can be sentenced to more than 30 days in a detention facility.
“In King County, we still have on the books right now that if you’re a juvenile and you’re convicted for gun possession, you have up to five times before a conviction,” Gee said.
