‘How do you get it done?’: KIRO hosts challenge Katie Wilson’s ambitious agenda

Nov 18, 2025, 5:03 AM | Updated: 2:27 pm

Following the victory of Seattle’s newest mayor, Katie Wilson, the socialist candidate spoke on CNN to echo the city’s various issues she campaigned on, including homelessness, housing affordability, food costs, and child care.

KIRO host Spike O’Neil questioned how many policies Wilson will be able to implement, noting that all proposals — practical or radical — must pass through the city’s legislative process.

“How do you get it done? We’ve heard the platitudes, we’ve campaigned on the ideologies, right? What will Wilson be able to accomplish? Mayors need to work with city councils and have to work with federal and state governments,” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “They’ve got proposals and ideas, but you have to work within the democratic system.”

KIRO fill-in host Greg Tomlin warned that Wilson’s socialist values could lead Seattle to repeat the failures of previous administrations with similar ideologies.

“I’m very cautious about what Katie Wilson’s agenda is going to inflict upon Seattle, and at the same time, I’m perfectly willing to eat crow at the end of four years and look back and say it did some good, but I have my doubts,” Tomlin said. “I just look at the historical record and say we could be in for some even tougher times ahead in terms of affordability. We’ll see, it’s two competing ideologies.”
