What’s it like to create a radio show every morning? We
took a peek behind the silver microphone on Friday to see what it’s
really like with the Ross and Burbank show.

12:05 p.m. – Ross and Burbank takes over the Dori Monson Show

Dave and Luke join the Dori Monson Show at the top of the hour. After the segment, Dave will put the finishing touches on his weekend commentary and Luke will tape Friday’s TBTL podcast with Producer Andrew.

11:57 a.m. – Sweet iPad app for the radio

Producer Andrew shows off a new iPad app that allows him to play sound bites on-air at the touch of a finger.

11:34 a.m. – Tom Tangney review

Seattle’s Morning News co-host Tom Tangney joins the show to give his latest movie review.

11:18 a.m. – Good to Go

What was Luke doing during the commercial break? Paying his Good to Go pass.

10:56 a.m. – “Paperwork central”

Luke sifts through some printed out news stories during a
commercial break. Luke will be taping the weekend edition
of the TBTL podcast soon after the show ends.

10:41 a.m. – Technology gets the best of us

Producer Andrew laughs after Dave forgot to turn his on-
air button on. Luke says the buttons are like “a mind
trick” because they’re deceivingly difficult to push.

Here are the buttons Dave and Producer Andrew are
having trouble pushing

10:25 a.m. – The News Through Ross Colored
Glasses

Dave Ross delivers “The News Through Ross Colored
Glasses”, a daily segment on the Ross & Burbank show. Ross
has been an employee at 97.3 KIRO FM for the past 34
years.

10:14 a.m. – Dave and Luke discuss the topic of
the morning

Dave and Luke talk about the George Zimmerman bail
hearing
from earlier this morning. Luke thinks that
Zimmerman doesn’t deserve the death penalty, but should be
charged with manslaughter in the death of Trayvon Martin.

9:59 a.m. – Top of the hour newscast

97.3 KIRO FM anchor Ursula Reutin reads the 10:00 newscast
before the second hour of Ross & Burbank.

9:48 a.m. – Behind the board operator

Erynn Rose, the board operator for 97.3 KIRO FM, controls
when the show goes into and out of commercial breaks. Rose
coordinates with Producer Andrew about any production
issues that may arise.

9:20 a.m. – Behind the mic

This is what it looks like from behind Luke Burbank’s
microphone in the new 97.3 KIRO FM studios. There are two
television monitors, one on CNN and the other on Northwest
Cable News.

9:02 a.m. – Showtime!

Ross and Burbank are prepared to start the show! Stream it
live on MyNorthwest.com.

8:36 a.m. – Pre-show meeting

News just came down from Florida that a judge has set
bail for George Zimmerman
, the man who killed teenager
Trayvon
Martin, at $150K. News anchor Ursula Reutin joins the Ross
& Burbank crew
for their pre-show meeting, where they’ll lead with the
Zimmerman story to
start the show.

8:21 a.m. – Great minds think alike

After Vanessa, the front desk assistant, made an
appearance on the show
yesterday, Luke and Producer Andrew debate whether they
should make
her part of a new daily segment.

8:13 a.m. – Editing takes time

Dave makes the final edits to his weekend commentary for
CBS Radio, less
than an hour before the show begins.

7:38 a.m. – Dave delivers his commentary on
Seattle’s
Morning News

Dave joins the crew of Seattle’s Morning News every Friday
at 7:38 a.m. to
deliver his daily commentary. He still has one more
commentary to record
for the weekend.

7:25 a.m. – Stretching for news

There isn’t much local news to search for today, but
Producer Andrew
hopes to have 90 percent of the show rundown complete by
8:00 a.m.

7:05 a.m. – Karaoke doesn’t necessarily make forgood
radio

Producer Andrew tells Dave about a listener who wants him
to sing a
rendition of “Secret Agent Man”. Although Dave knows his
Karaoke would
be a hit on the radio, it probably won’t make it on the
show. “It would take
five hours to fill 30 seconds.”

6:28 a.m. – First lesson in producing a radio show:
Find news

For Producer Andrew, the day starts by searching the
web

Meanwhile, Dave starts writing up his daily commentary
for CBS Radio
