What would you do if someone broke into your home?

A suspect in a string of North Seattle home break-ins is
facing a longer sentence because the burglaries happened
at night when residents were in their homes. The scary
nature of the crimes had many in the neighborhood on
guard.
“It was frightening,” said 97.3 KIRO FM reporter Ursula
Reutin, who lives in North Seattle. “When these burglaries
were happening, our neighborhood watch captains were
saying […] ‘It’s happening when people are in their
homes, you need to make sure you’re prepared.'”
The Ross and Burbank Show hosts have a
few
strategies in case they’re ever caught in a break-in
situation.
Luke Burbank said he often reviews his plan while
lying in his bed late at night.
“If I hear a noise, I start to play through my whole anti-
robber strategy,” said Burbank.
Burbank said he doesn’t have any firearms and he’s been
meaning to get a baseball bat, but hasn’t gotten around to
it. In lieu of any weapons, he says he’s figured a way to
use his body.
“There’s these narrow stairs that go up to where my
bedroom is, and they’re kind of steep, and I feel like if
I got a flying leap off the top of them and the burglar
was kind of at the bottom of the stairs, I could just
basically double-foot karate kick them.”
Ursula and guest host David Boze warned Burbank that if
the double-foot kick doesn’t go as planned, he could end
up injuring himself. But Burbank is confident he’d be
able to subdue the robber.
Ursula said her plan is to avoid a confrontation
altogether.
“If someone were to enter when we’re in there, the first
thing I thought was ‘I’m going to pretend that I have no
clue that this person is in there,’ because the last thing
I want to do is confront this person.”
She said the exception would be in the case that her loved
ones were threatened.
“If they look like they’re going to hurt my kids or my
husband, then watch out.”
Boze said his method for keeping home intruders out is
pretty “traditional.”
“The Boze household has a more traditional plan, where
they would encounter a very simple object that uses gun
powder to blow large holes in things.”
