SPOG President: Show Us the Math on $13M Error
Seattle's police union wants the city to show its math before determining how much officers must return from a $13.1 million back-pay error — and SPOG President Kent Loux joined The Gee and Ursula Show to explain why.
More than 900 police employees were overpaid after the city used incorrect base rates to calculate retroactive raises. The payments went out June 12. Some officers are being told they owe nearly $20,000 back. Some have already moved the money into investment accounts. And the tax implications are still unresolved.
But Loux says the overpayment conversation can't happen in isolation. He says the city has had two years of payroll inaccuracies, including underpayments, that need to be reconciled before anyone writes a check back.
