UW Researcher Sounds Alarm on US Science
One of the nation's most prominent diabetes researchers was removed from a medical conference by police — after the American Diabetes Association made the call.
His crime? Handing out an editorial he co-wrote in the ADA's own journal.
Dr. Stephen Kahn, director of the UW Diabetes Research Center, joins The Gee and Ursula Show to explain what happened in that hallway, what's in the editorial titled "Misguided Brushes of a Pen Continue to Dismantle and Destroy Biomedical Research in the United States: We Can No Longer Afford Complacency and Fear. We Must All Act Now!," and why he says the changes being proposed for federal research grants would devastate science as we know it.
