Anthony’s Restaurants has announced the passing of founder and chairman Budd Gould, who died peacefully on July 5, surrounded by his family.

Gould opened the first Anthony’s HomePort on the shores of Lake Washington in Kirkland in 1976, laying the foundation for what would become one of the Pacific Northwest’s most recognizable seafood restaurant groups. Over the next five decades, Anthony’s expanded to 26 locations across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, while building a reputation for fresh Northwest seafood, waterfront dining, and hospitality.

The family-owned company will continue under the leadership of his daughter, President and CEO Amy Burns. His son, Herb Gould, the company’s former CEO, will now serve as chairman of the board.

“Long before we ever worked together, he was my Little League coach. Even back then, he had this way of bringing out the best in people,” Gould said in a recent press release. “That’s what stuck with me: lead with heart, believe in people, and the rest follows. I’m going to miss him so much, but carrying his legacy forward is an honor.”

The family has suggested that rather than send flowers, those who wish to commemorate Budd Gould’s legacy consider donating to a local Boys & Girls Club or culinary arts program.
