How United Ways of the Pacific Northwest is Helping Spokane Fire Displacees

United Ways of the Pacific Northwest is mobilizing to help Washingtonians affected by the ongoing Spokane fires.
As of yesterday, the Old Trails Fire, together with other fires in the Spokane Cluster, has burned more than 3,500 acres, and an estimated 11,000 people are currently without power.
Recently, the fire crossed the Spokane River and entered city neighborhoods, and two additional fires — Fairview and Autumn Lane — have strained resources and evacuation routes. Besides Spokane, other fires across Washington and Oregon, such as the Kaiser Canyon Fire on the Colville Reservation, are threatening local communities.
Across the Pacific Northwest region, Washington and Oregon have been fighting dozens of large-scale active fires this year, which have burned over a million acres. To help combat the fires, Gov. Bob Ferguson has activated the Washington National Guard, issued a state of emergency, and has declared a statewide burn ban until Sept. 30.
For their part, UWPN has partnered with Airbnb to provide temporary housing for those who have been displaced. Additionally, the organization has set up the Greater Spokane Recovery Fund, whose proceeds will be used to support those impacted by the fires.
