La Loba in South Lake Union recently launched Sunday brunch, and its tableside French toast is the main event.
Prepared with the flourish of a live show (and a sure-fire hit with kids), a loaf of tender shokupan milk bread topped with custard-like crema catalana is sprinkled with sugar and given a theatrical brûlée sugary crust thanks to a hand torch. Vanilla gelato is spooned atop the caramelized sugar to soften and melt as a sprinkle of fresh berries, granola, and a drizzle of local honey or dulce de leche are added to form a mountain of sweetness.
The French toast service isn’t the only tableside presentation — La Loba also has a Tableside Bloody Mary, with a choice of spirit (vodka, gin, tequila, sherry, or a sesame fat-washed mezcal), garnished with Ibérico Jamón, pickled vegetables, and a salted rim.
