What We Saw at Lakewold Gardens’ Pour in the Park Event

It was a perfect afternoon for the second annual Pour in the Park at Lakewood’s Lakewold Gardens.

Set among the historic gardens and grounds, the recent event felt as much like a garden party as a tasting festival — and it’s clear the event has grown since its inaugural year.

More than 20 local wineries, including Marrowstone Vineyards and Tacoma’s OBK Winery, were spread throughout the gardens, pouring their concoctions alongside cider, seltzer, and local breweries such as Dystopian State Brewing.

General admission included a souvenir plastic wine glass, 12 tasting tickets, and a wine bottle tote bag; all proceeds went back to the gardens and their preservation.

Guests also got a chance to step inside the gardens’ historic home, which dates back to 1908. The property, which has involved since its formative days as a lakeside summer retreat, was eventually transformed into the beautiful gardens we know today. The event offered a chance to experience not just the gardens, but a little of the history behind them, too.

A scavenger hunt encouraged guests to explore the grounds and learn about the gardens’ background at a history exhibit, with prizes awarded after completing the hunt and spinning the prize wheel.

Food trucks including Tacos Mirrey, Boss Mama’s Kitchen, and Thai’m to Roll kept everyone fueled, while Brugge Chocolates added something sweet. Tacoma Knife and Sharpening Mercantile was also on hand, giving attendees a chance to browse specialty knives and other wares.

A large, tented seating area with tables and a surplus of shade gave guests a comfortable place to relax between tastings, enjoy food, and catch up with friends while taking in the colorful surroundings.

Bottle valet service made it easy to shop without carrying your purchases. For those who didn’t opt for drop-off and pick-up, free nearby parking was available at Clover Park High School Stadium, with shuttle service running to and from the event.
