Three Republican candidates are running to unseat incumbent Democrat Bob Ferguson. Matt Larkin is leading the Republican field early with over 23% of the vote, followed by Brett Rogers (12%) and Mike Vaska (7%).

Ferguson sent out a statement shortly after the first results came in.

As Attorney General, my focus is standing up for Washingtonians by holding powerful interests and corporations accountable when they don’t play by the rules. Voters will have a clear choice in this race. My opponent professes that he ‘loves all the things’ Donald Trump does.

The last thing we need is another Republican rubber stamp for the Trump Administration and his attacks on health care, the environment and democracy. Unlike my opponent, I refuse all donations from large corporations — I work for the people.

Ferguson was first elected as Washington State’s Attorney General in 2012, when he defeated Republican Reagan Dunn 53.5% to 46.5%. He won reelection in 2016, when he bested Libertarian candidate Joshua Trumbull, who ran unopposed in the Primary, 67% to 32%.

Ferguson has become known in recent years for the many lawsuits he’s filed against the Trump administration, numbering at least 65 since 2016. He’s won 29 of those lawsuits, and lost just one.
