The family of a Whatcom County man confirmed on Wednesday that Jose Garcia died during Monday’s flooding around Everson.

Police said on Monday that Garcia was last known to be clinging to a tree after his truck was swept away in a flooded field.

Authorities found Garcia’s truck, but the 49-year-old man had been missing since Monday. Search crews had been looking for Garcia for two days.

On Wednesday, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Everson Police Department discovered the body of a man in the 600 block of Main Street in Everson. His family confirmed with KIRO 7 it was Garcia.

Final cause of death will be determined by the Whatcom County Medical Examiner.
