Boeing is creating new design centers in other parts of the country and moving a few hundred Seattle area engineering jobs in the process.
The aerospace company announced Friday it will create design centers in South Carolina and Southern California. Boeing is calling this a strategic move to make the company more competitive and “geographically diverse” for future growth.
The South Carolina center will house a new propulsion operation. Boeing will move all work on out-of-production airplanes to Southern California.
The changes will mean the shift of about 300 Puget Sound area Boeing jobs.
Boeing is also considering a center in Kiev, Ukraine to support a design center already established in Moscow.
