1 person found dead after residential fire in Des Moines

A residential fire in Des Moines killed one person on Sunday.

At approximately 6:35 p.m., multiple calls to 911 reported a house fire in the 1400 block of S. 216th Street, the Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) announced.

South King Fire crews responded to the scene. DMPD responded to assist with traffic control and securing the scene.

1 person found dead after fire inside Des Moines residence

An initial search of the residence located one dead person inside the residence. The fire was eventually controlled.

King County Fire investigators and DMPD detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Officers and fire crews were on the scene for several hours, and the public was asked to avoid the area.

DMPD noted that no additional information is available at this time.
