The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is seeking donations for the families of two deputies involved in Tuesday’s deadly shooting.

One deputy succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while the other is on life support and is not expected to survive, according to SCSO.

“The Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort (SCOPE) is accepting donations to help with the deputies’ funeral expenses to honor their dedication and service to Spokane County and our Nation,” SCSO stated in a news release Thursday.

SCSO deputies responded to a domestic violence shooting at a home in the 18700 block of S. Smythe Road in south Spokane County. One person had been shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Reports of possible additional victims prompted a SWAT response, according to authorities.

The SWAT team and deputies tried to enter the house to rescue other possible victims when gunfire broke out from inside the home. The two deputies were shot as others returned fire.

Any excess donations to SCOPE will go to the deputies’ families.

“We are grateful and honored by the outpouring of heartfelt condolences and prayers for these Deputies, their families and friends, and everyone at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, as well as those asking how they can honor their service to the Citizens of Spokane County,” SCSO stated. “Both provided continuous service to their country through the U.S. Army National Guard.”
