More details have come out after one person died and three people were taken to the hospital after a fight broke out inside a car traveling on Interstate 5 (I-5) north near Federal Way Wednesday.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported four people in a black BMW got into an altercation. The man driving died of a stab wound. The three passengers were taken to the hospital. One man suffered multiple gunshot wounds, another man was stabbed and a woman was also stabbed.

On Thursday, WSP reported further investigation revealed the man who suffered gunshot wounds was in the back seat and allegedly stabbed the driver and the other two passengers. The man remains at the hospital recovering from the gunshot wounds. WSP stated that once he is medically cleared he will be booked into the King County Jail on investigation of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

Deputies are still working to figure out who fired the gun. WSP also noted the names of those involved will not be released until booking for filing charges by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported the commotion led to a six-mile backup on I-5 north into Tacoma. The two right lanes and the off-ramp to the SeaTac rest area were blocked.
