Search and rescue crews have found the last body from the March 22 landslide that killed 43 people in Oso.

Although the official search for victims ended in April, workers have been screening debris and watching for the body of 44-year-old Molly Kristine “Kris” Regelbrugge.

“We weren’t going to stop until we found Kris,” said Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary. He told a news conference Tuesday afternoon that two weeks ago, new evidence of the location of the Regelbrugge house was discovered, so digging continued.

“Quite honestly, we went much deeper than we initially anticipated we would have to and that led us to an area that we believe were the contents of the garage and that’s where we found Kris,” Trenary explained.

The sheriff said dry conditions also helped searchers get to the final body in the debris field.

Regelbrugge’s husband, Navy Cmdr. John Regelbrugge III, also was killed in the slide that hit their home. His body was one of the 42 recovered earlier.
